Trassological examination is the determination of the age of the product depending on the type of assay and nameplate.
The issue of branding and labeling of modern jewelry is determined by legislative and regulatory documents. However, the establishment of the authenticity of the corresponding stamp presupposes the use of a large number of analogs - stamps, a databank on their use in the corresponding era, reference books. A reliable means of investigating the authenticity of a sample of an old stamp is photographing it with a digital camera with macro photography, followed by enlargement through a computer and comparison with existing prototypes.
The nameplate certifying the manufacturer of jewelry and household products made of precious metals contains information that allows you to establish compliance on the marking label and is an important identification sign of authenticity. It is worth noting that the information of the nameplate, by agreement with the customer, must correspond to the data given in the marking label by the time of manufacture. On ancient jewelry, the masters made notes in the form of signs and marks corresponding to the letters: the name, surname, or even the initials of the surname of the master's father. The list of decoded letters, as a rule, is given in specialized reference books.
However, most of the products have absolutely no signs and designations. Even more items do not have assay marks, which makes the examination the most problematic.
